Update : 13 Jan 2018, 07:36 PM
A man detained from Sharishabari upazila in Jamalpur by the Detective Branch (DB) of police on Friday has died in the custody of the law enforcers at Jamalpur General Hospital. Jamalpur DB Officer-in-Charge Salemuzzaman said they held Nazim Uddin, 59, hailing from Tangail Sadar upazila, along with 11 others during an anti-gambling raid at Boira Bazar in Sharishabari upazila late on Friday night. “Nazim suddenly fell ill after he was detained and was taken to Jamalpur General Hospital on Saturday morning. The on-duty doctor declared him dead,” the OC said. Jamalpur General Hospital Resident Medical Officer KM Shafiquzzaman said Nazim had already passed away when the DB team arrived at the hospital. “It looks like he died of cardiac arrest, but details will be confirmed after the autopsy,” Shafiquzzaman added. Executive Magistrate Padmasan Singha, who prepared the inquest report, said: “There were no injury marks anywhere on the body of the deceased, but there was a bump above the right knee .”
