Section 144 imposed in Thakurgaon sadar upazila

The local authorities have imposed Section 144 in Ruheea,Volarhat, Dholarhat, Rajagaon and Rahimanpur areas of Thakurgaon sadar upazila as both  BNP and Awami League opted to hold rallies at the same venue in the areas. The restriction was imposed on Friday night and will remain in force until further notice, officials at the Thakurgaon district administration said, adding that Section 144 was imposed to avoid possible untoward situations as the local unit of Awami League announced to hold counter-rallies in the same areas. Meanwhile, leaders of BNP’s Thakurgaon district unit in a press conference postponed their prior-scheduled programs and condemned the administration’s move. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was supposed to join the rallies, cancelled his visit to the district, said BNP’s district unit president and sadar upazila Chairman Taimur Rahman. Among others, the unit’s general secretary Mirza Foysal Amin was present there.
