Police have foiled BNP and its associate organisations' countrywide rallies and black-flag processions marking marking the fourth anniversary of the 2014 national elections, which they call “Democracy Killing Day.”
There are reports that police members baton-charged the agitating BNP and its affiliated organisation's leaders and activists and detained several of them on Friday.
BNP has been holding rallies and bringing out processions across the country on the anniversary of the 10th parliamentary polls, since 2015.
Our Tangail correspondent Abdullah Al Numan reports that police obstructed local BNP leaders and activists when they attempted to bring out a procession from the district unit BNP office in the morning.

In Sunamganj, police took similar measure as they stopped such a procession in the city's Traffic Point area around 11am.
Earlier the procession brought out from the district unit BNP office Old Bus Stand area, had crossed several strategic points of the city before police stopped it, reports our local correspondent Himadri Shekor Vodro.

Afterwards, they held a short rally, where former whip and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's advisor Advocate Fazlul Haq Aspia spoke, among others.
The speakers at the gathering reiterated that Bangladesh's democracy was buried through the farcical January 5 polls in 2014.
They urged the government to hold the 11th national election as soon as possible and withdraw all the “false cases” filed against Khaleda, Tarique Rahman and all other BNP leaders and activists.
Meanwhile, police in Bandarban detained three BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists as they along with their party colleagues were about to bring out a protest procession from the district unit BNP office in the hill district's Madrasa Shopping Complex area.
They also baton charged the protesters to disperse them, reports our correspondent S Bashu Das.
Later on, the local BNP leaders held a press conference protesting the incident.
The scenario in Barisal was even worse as almost the entire entire city was under the occupation of police, the ruling Awami League and its associate organisations, reports Anisur Rahman Swapan, who is our local correspondent.
The situation caused local BNP leaders and activists to bring out a handful of sudden processions and they were hardly seen on the city streets throughout the day, on Friday.

Dhaka TribuneKotwali police station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Md Awlad said they deployed additional forces in front of the district unit BNP office as the party was denied permission to hold any rally and bring out any procession.
BNP central cimmitte's Joint Secretary General Advocate Majibur Rahman Sarwar told reporters that police kept him confined to his residence in the Barisal town.
But Kawnia police station's OC Nurul Islam said they just deployed some policemen in front of Sarwar's house, to keep law and order under control.
“He [Sarwar] was not confined to his home,” the police officer said.
Barisal district unit Chhatra Dal alleged that armed members of Chhatra League attacked the when they brought out a procession carrying balck flags in the city's C&B Road area, leaving two of its leaders injured.
Visiting several spots of the city, it was noticed that other that the ruling party, pro-Awami League and organisations were celebrating the 4th anniversary of the January 5 polls, which they term the Victory Day for democracy.
According to our Bogra correspondent Nazmul Huda Nasim, police intervention halted the protest procession by BNP and its affiliated bodies, which was about to be brought out from the local BNP office.
But, the protesters held a rally on a road near the office premises.
Earlier, police arrested two BNP activists the previous night for allegedly planning a sabotage centring the January 5 programmes.
Interestingly, Awami League and its associate organisations were seen holding rallies and staging showdown in parts of Bogra town, to mark the Victory Day for democracy.
Both Awami League and BNP in Comilla held bserved counter programmes on Friday, reports our correspondent Masud Alam.
Comilla city unit Awami League organised a mass rally on the Town Hall ground.
On the other hand, Comilla city and south district units of BNP brought out protest procession, followed by a rally that they held at their district unit office.

At least 14 BNP leaders and activists were injured after police launched baton charges at them in Khulna, prompting them to pelt brick chips at the law enforcers, our correspondent Hedait Hossain Molla reports.

Khulna Sadar police station's OC Mizanur Rahman said they arrested five BNP leaders and activists for attacking them, but denied baton-charging the protesters.
At one state, police and protesters engaged in a series of chase and counter-chase that lasted for nearly half an hour.
