A sexagenarian kobiraj (traditional medicine practitioner) has been detained by police on charge of raping an 11-year-old girl in Tangail municipality.
Chandu Miah, 60, a resident of Kachuadanga para in the municipality, reportedly took his neighbour's daughter to his house under the pretext of curing her weakness and raped her on Saturday evening.
News of the matter was made public after the rapists wife informed the victim's mother of the incident on Sunday morning.
Subsequently, a mob of enraged locals confined the accused rapist to his house and beat him before handing him over to police.
Tangail model police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Ashikuzzaman said both the alleged rapist and the victim had been taken into custody.
He added that a case would be filed if evidence of rape is found during primary examination of the rape victim.
