9 workers burnt in gas cylinder blast in Gazipur factory

At least nine workers were severely injured on Tuesday as a fire broke out at a cosmetics factory in Kaliakair upazila, Gazipur. Factory workers said the fire started after a gas cylinder exploded inside the factory of FS Cosmetics Ltd in Kaliakair's Jamalpur area around 4:30pm. The fire spread quickly in the factory and forced the workers to rush out of the factory. “During the chaos, nine workers were severely burnt,” said Mouchak police outpost Sub-Inspector Saiful Alam. The injured were rushed to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex and other nearby hospitals, confirmed Nazma Begum, local union parishad councillor. Among the nine injured workers, eight were later transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition for specialized burn treatments, said Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Dewan Mohammad Humayun Kabir. Four units of firefighters doused the fire after hours of efforts, he said.
