Awami League leader killed in Rangamati

Two separate attacks took place on local Awami League leaders in Rangamati on Tuesday evening. Jurachari upazila Awami League Organizing Secretary Arabindu Chakma was shot dead in public. The 50-year-old leader’s death has been confirmed by Jurchari police. No attackers have been identified yet. In a separate attack around the same time, Bilaichhari upazila Awami League Vice-President Russell Marma was assaulted by a group which laid upon him with melee weapons. Russell was grievously injured, but survived. He has been admitted to the upazila sadar hospital. The incident has been confirmed by Bilaichhari police. After the attacks, local police claimed the situation was normal and under control. In addition, Bilaichhari police station Officer-in-Charge Manzurul Alam Molla said the police will take action if any complaints are made.
