In Khulna city, the prices of vegetables have more than doubled. The sheer discrepancy between wholesale and retail prices is utterly absurd.
Tomatoes cost Tk140-150 per kilo retail. In the same market, broiler chicken costs Tk110.
In the wholesale market, tomatoes are sold at Tk50-100 per kilo.
Coriander leaves cost Tk200 per kilo. Every other vegetable, even those which are common in winter, are exorbitantly priced.
Wholesalers claim the price hike is due to transportation costs and increased import of vegetables.
