Drug addict kills his mother, son

Around 7pm on Sunday evening, Shah Alam, a 32-year-old man hacked both his mother and son to death and injured his father with a sharp weapon in Dastanabad village in Natore, after he was refused money to buy drugs. The deceased are Bilkis Begum, 50, and Alif, a 10-year-old. Shah Alam’s 55-year-old father Shahadat Hossain suffered grievous injuries in the frenzy. Following the murders, the locals apprehended Shah Alam and handed him over to the police. Natore's Additional Superintendent of Police Abdul Hasnat confirmed the deaths and said that the drug in question might have been yaba. He said the investigation will shed further light on the details of the crime. Villagers indicated Shah Alam had a history of drug abuse and regularly lent money from his parents to buy drugs. On Sunday evening, Shah became erratic and aggressive after Bilkis refused to give him money. As the frenzied drug addict began to assault his mother, his son Alif, who was studying for exams in the adjacent room, pled to his father not to hurt his grandmother. In the fit of rage, Shah Alam picked up a sharp weapon and began hacking mercilessly at his son. Bilkis tried to save Alif from the onslaught and became the target of Shah Alam’s rage. Shahadat rushed in when he heard the terrified screams of his wife and grandson. But he too fell victim to his son’s bladed assault. Locals came running to the house when they heard Shahadat’s screams for help and restrained Shah Alam. Some relative and neighbours of the family’s relatives claimed a recent land dispute led to the fatalities. Shahadat is currently in critical state at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
