Journalist and poet Abid Azam’s father, Alhajj Mofijur Rahman Abu Taher, 70, recently passed away at his own residence in Dhaka’s Modhubag area near Hatirjheel.
He was buried at his family graveyard in Koyaria village of Kalkini upazila in Madaripur after his second janaza.
According to Mofijur’s family, he had long been suffering from diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and kidney disease. He left behind a wife, two daughters and two sons, among other relatives.
The late Mofijur Rahman Abu Taher was a teacher, in addition to performing his duties as director of Ummul Qura Prokashoni and the Arabic Foundation.
Mofijur had also helped freedom fighters in various ways during the Liberation War if 1971.
Mofijur’s younger brother Dr Muhammod Mustafijur Rahman is an author and linguist, and his elder son Abid Azam is a journalist and poet. Abid currently works as Newsroom editor at Radio Today, and is also a member of the Dhaka Union of Journalists.
Renowned poet Al Mahmud, leaders among journalists and other prominent people from various sections of society all expressed their condolences and grief at Mofijur’s death.
