Update : 04 Jan 2017, 05:25 PM
"The people of Gaibandha were out of life for their [Jamaat’s] oppression and torture. MP Liton stood against that. Justice will surely be delivered for this killing," Hasina said in a video conference for development and against militancy and terrorism with Rangpur division on Wednesday. "Such a killing of a people’s representative cannot be accepted," she added. MP Liton was shot at his home on Saturday evening by unidentified assailants. He was pronounced dead at Rangpur Medical College Hospital after a couple of hours. The premier said law enforcement agencies had been directed to find out who was involved in the killing. Police have now detained 39 people in connection with the murder. She also urged people to keep students safe from militancy and terrorism during the video conference, pledging to establish at least one government or private university in every district to make education available for all and to move the country ahead. "To build a country free of poverty, we need educated people," the premier said. "Without educated people a country can never win over poverty. Keeping that goal in mind, we are taking different initiatives and our decision is to set up a university in every district."
