Update : 26 Oct 2017, 06:09 PM
A criminal with an arrest warrant in a narcotics case has escaped from police custody in Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj, after he had already been handcuffed. The incident took place in front of a cinema near Belkuchi police station early on Thursday morning. While fleeing the scene, 28-year-old fugitive Mahmudul Hasan also injured a sub-inspector (SI) by punching him in the nose. Sources in the police station said a team of seven policemen, including SI Abdul Alim, went on a raid to arrest Hasan in the upazila's Mukundganti area around 2am. The team, comprised of four SIs and three assistant sub-inspectors on three motorbikes, managed to successfully capture Mahmudul and was returning to the police station when he managed to escape. As they were nearing to the police station, Mahmudul, despite being handcuffed, punched Alim and jumped off the bike they were riding on, fleeing the spot. The other policemen failed to stop him, sources said. When contacted, Belkuchi police station Inspector (investigation) Laisur Rahman said they were looking into the matter and trying to rearrest the fugitive.
