Murder accused killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

An accused of a murder case has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Kasba area under Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia district. The deceased is Shahin, 32, of Nurpur village. Kumarkhali police station Office-in-Charge Abdul Khalek said: “We detained Shahin around 9am on Thursday. “We took him along with us and conducted a drive in the area to arrest his associates around 2:30am on Friday.” Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, they opened fire at us. In retaliation, police fired back that left Shahin bullet wounded. Later, he was declared dead when taken to Kumarkhali Upazila Health Complex. He said police recovered a foreign-made pistol, bullets and a machete from the spot.
