A private clinic in the port city was found in a dismal and unhygienic state during a mobile court drive by Chittagong District Administration on Wednesday.
The errant clinic, Cosmopolitan Hospital, located at the city’s Chatteswari road was fined with Tk3 lakh. Three of their staff were also detained in this connection.
Expired injections and drugs were being used in the clinic's operating theatre. No doctor was available in the operating theatre while a patient groaned in pain.

Their pharmacy had stocked up expired medicines and medicines without any label. Fish and meat were kept with blood bags in their fridge.
The same mobile court conducted another drive at the city’s Halishahar area and fined a diagnostic centre with Tk2.05 lakh for using expired reagents.
Moreover, the diagnostic centre's radiology technician did not have any professional qualification.

Executive Magistrate Tania Moon told the Dhaka Tribune that they would be tough on malpractice in private clinics and diagnostic centres.
