A mobile court in Kushtia has sentenced five fishermen to one year imprisonment for catching Ilish defying a government ban.
Kumarkhali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Khaleque has confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune on Monday.
He said: "On information, we conducted a raid in different locations of Padma river in Kumarkhali upazila around 10pm and caught the fishermen.
"The mobile court also seized a 10,000 meter fishing net during the raid.
The government has imposed a 22-day ban on catching, selling, transportation and hoarding of Ilish fish from October 1 to 22.
