After an angry protest against the release from the custody of Belkuchi police in Sirajganj, two among four suspects of the murder of Arif - a madrasa student - have found themselves in police custody once again.
Earlier on Monday morning, hundreds of angry protesters blocked the road in front of the police station, alleging that Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajjad Hossain took bribes to free the four accused.
The protest was sparked by the recovery of Arif's dead body from a ditch adjacent to the Islami Bank branch in Belkuchi municipal area the same morning.
Arif, a seventh grader of Shernagar Senior Fazil Madrasa, went missing since Saturday afternoon when he left home for Mukundoganti Bazar area to buy a pair of sandals.
Arif's Father Shahid Kasai, a resident of Khidramatia village, alleged that Sabbir, son of Jamal from Mukundoganti Bazar area, and his associates snatched Tk3,000 cash and a mobile phone from Arif earlier in the morning. Arif went there to buy an LPG cylinder with the money.
As there was no trace of Arif since Saturday afternoon, his family members informed the matter to Belkuchi police.
Police acted promptly and detained four suspects – Sabbir's father Jamal, Yusuf from Chala village, Ali Hasan from Subarnapara village, and Rabbi -- from different areas of the upazila later at night, but only to released them after some primary interrogation.
OC Sajjad Hossain said the four suspects were released because no clue of the murder was available till that time.
Later, as the dead body of Arif was recovered from the ditch, Sirajganj police arrested Yusuf and Hasan again in this connection from their respective residences on Monday.
Arif's father have already filed a case over the murder of his son, naming five people.
