Four gunmen have fired shots that pierced through an image of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, hung at a railway station master's office in Narsingdi.
Abdul Mazid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Narsingdi Sadar police station, said a gang of four miscreants entered the Narsingdi railway station around 9:30am on Monday, and fired shots inside the Station Master Mohidul Islam's office.
One of the miscreants was wearing a mask, the OC added.
While speaking to reporters, the OC also said: "A local miscreant, Rasel, snatched a mobile phone and some money from a young passenger early Monday. The railway police, led by Station Master Mohidul, immediately recovered the items from the mugger, and gave them back to the boy. Before fleeing the scene, Rasel threatened to get back at the police."
Later, three of Rasel's cohorts and he vandalised Mohidul's office. Failing to find him at his desk, the miscreants fired gunshots at an image of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman that was hung inside Mohidul's office, and fled the scene.
Police have identified Rasel's gang with the help of the CCTV footage from the railway station, and from eye-witnesses' account. They have also recovered a bullet shell from the scene.
A case has been filed in connection to this incident.
