Update : 16 Sep 2017, 10:47 PM
A youth was reportedly beaten to death by Indian villagers in the Sharifpur border area of Moulvibazar district on Friday. The deceased is Yasin Mian, 28, son of Feron Mian in Sonjabpur Berirpar area of Kulaura upazila. Yasin, along with some friends, crossed the border and entered Kodommora village of Murtichhara, India, in the afternoon on the day, said Shamim Musa, officer-in-charge of Kulaura police station. On thinking the youths had entered their territory to commit robbery, the villagers started to chase them. They caught Yasin while his friends managed to flee the area. Later, they beat him indiscriminately and left him to die. Jonab Ali, chairman of Sharifpur union council, said they had talked to BGB members to bring Yasin’s body back soon. Major GM Khaled, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-46, said a flag meeting between Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and BGB was held on Saturday morning over the incident. BSF had confirmed Yasin’s death, he said. “We are trying to bring the body back shortly,” the commander added.
