Former CU VC Prof Fazle Hossain passes away

Former Vice Chancellor (VC) of Chittagong University Md Fazle Hossain has passed away Sunday night. 85-year-old Fazle breathed his last at a private hospital in the port city. The former professor of mathematics was suffering from different old-age complications. He left behind his wife, three sons, three daughters and a host of relatives to mourn his death. Fazle Hossain was appointed as the 11th VC of Chittagong University in 2001 and was discharged in 2002. He joined the university's Department of Mathematics in 1968. Apart from serving as the senate and syndicate member of Chittagong University, he was also the dean of science faculty. Besides, Fazle served as the president of Bangladesh Mathematics Association and Biggyan Unnayan Samity. In his youth, he actively participated in 1952 Language Movement, and became the general secretary of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) in 1957. The current VC Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury and Pro-VC Shirin Akhter of Chittagong University have expressed their condolences over the demise of the veteran professor.
