Narayanganj explosion was from gas line, not explosives

Update : 01 Sep 2017, 05:04 PM
A blast at a building in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district, which injured two residents, was from a gas line explosion in the kitchen, not from explosives. One side of the roof and a wall of the building – Comilla House – collapsed after the explosion, Narayanganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Moinul Haque said. “Though we chiefly believe that the cause of the incident is a gas line explosion, a five member committee has been formed to further investigate the matter,” he added. The bomb disposal unit and fire service raided the house, but found no explosives or bomb- making materials, the SP said. The bomb disposal unit left the scene after the raid. Narayanganj Fire Service Deputy Director Mamunur Rashid said they too believe a gas line explosion is behind the wall collapse. Three units from Narayanganj, Demra, and Kanchan brought the fire under control. Narayanganj SP Moinul Haque said an additional SP and deputy assistant director of the Narayanganj fire service will lead the probe team and submit their report within a week.

At around 3am on Friday, two people – Ibrahim, 21, and Aynal, 30 – were injured in the blast. Both received 50% burn injuries and were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Police at first thought it was a bomb explosion. According to Rupganj police OC Ismail Hossain, they are investigating whether or not the injured have any militant links.
