District administration of Narayanganj on Friday imposed a ban on carrying all types of licenced firearms in Narayanganj city from December 19 to December 25 ahead of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls, scheduled to be held on December 22.
Returning officer Nuruzzaman Talukder said: “District administration has taken the decision with a view to ensuring fair and peaceful election environment.”
Mamunur Rashid, inspector of special branch of the district police, said: “District administration had banned carrying all kinds of firearms in Bandor, Narayanganj city and Siddhirganj areas from December 19 to December 25.”
According to police, there are a total of 586 licenced firearms under three police stations in the district.
Of the arms, 403 licenced firearms under the Sadar police station, 89 under Bandar police station and 94 under Siddhirganj police station.
