Jaheda said her husband would often accuse her unnecessarily and they had a fight over one such accusation on Thursday night. Her husband attacked her and hacked at her with a machete on Friday morning while she was on duty.
Doctors are apprehensive about her left arm which might need to be amputated as it was seriously injured.
Jaheda Begum had been living an impoverished life with her husband and four children in Rangpur city’s Kerani Para area. She used to work at households after her cleaning job because her rickshaw-puller husband idly remained at home.
Jaheda is being treated at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.
The Dhaka Tribune reached out to Rangpur Kotwali police to inquire about the progress of the case, but the police said no complaints were filed.
