Twelve members of the gang ‘Khokababu Bahini’ also handed over 22 fire arms and 1303 rounds of ammunitions to the law enforcing agency at the surrender programme.
The robbers are Kabirul Islam alias Khokababu (ring leader), Aminul Islam, Shahjahan Gazi, Abdul Aziz, Mizanur Rahman, Robiul Islam, Osman Gani, Rafikul Gazi, Yasin Ali Gazi, Mohidul Islam, Mojibor Rahman and Abul Kalam.
Benazir Ahmed, director general of RAB, lawmakers of ruling party and police officials were also present at the programme.
The home minister told the reporters at the progmmae that the government would ensure safety and security of the Sundarbans at any cost, as it represented Bangladesh in outer world.
He also called upon other robbers’ gangs to surrender.
“The collaborators, financiers and shelter-givers of the robbers will also be identified and brought under law,” said the minister.
Kamal assured the surrendered robbers of rehabilitations if they were not involved in any murder.
He said the government wanted them to return to normal life.
A total of 60 members of seven robbers’ gangs of Sundarbans surrendered to law enforcers with 117 fire arms and 6528 rounds of ammunitions over the last six months, said Major Adnan, media spokesman of RAB-8.
