Section 144 imposed in Narsingdi after fatalities from AL infighting

District police requested the Narsingdi deputy commissioner to make the call which has rendered villages devoid of men.

Deputy Commissioner Abu Hena Morshed Zaman told the Dhaka Tribune the Section will remain imposed indefinitely until further notice.

Law enforcers are patrolling the area under the supervision of a magistrate.

The enforcement has been ruled upon the villages Dorigaon and Sonakandi in Nilokkha upazila of the district.

Earlier on Monday, a clash between two factions led to over 50 houses being torched.

Four people died allegedly at the hands of police when law enforcement tried to intervene.

Section 144 is a prohibition of more than four people assembling in an area. The rule is used to curb mass unrest and has gained notoriety throughout the history of the country since the Language Movement in 1952 till date.
