Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur on 3-day fresh remand over militancy links

On December 13, the court had placed him on a seven-day remand in the case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman on a three-day fresh remand in a case lodged with capital's Jatrabari police station for his alleged involvement in militancy.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mostafa Reza Nur passed the order as police produced the Jamaat chief before the court after the end of his seven-day remand in the case and pleaded for placing him on eight-day fresh remand.

On December 13, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury had placed him on a seven-day remand in the case.

A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested the Jamaat chief from capital's Basundhara area on December 12.

Earlier, police arrested his son Dr Rafat Chowdhury, alleged chief coordinator of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam's Sylhet region, in this case.
