140 more Bangladeshis return from Libya

  • 975 people returned so far this year
  • 27 Bangladeshis were in Benghazi Detention Centre

A fresh batch of 140 Bangladeshis returned home from Libya on Thursday. 

Of them, 27 people were detained in the Benghazi Detention Centre and other 113 were affected by the flood in the Derna city. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a circular that the International Organization for Migration (IOM) assisted the repatriation process. 

The circular said that 140 Bangladeshi immigrants landed at Dhaka Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a flight of Buraq Air of Libya at 6:30am on Thursday. On arrival at the airport in Dhaka, the Bangladeshi citizens were welcomed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the IOM officials.

The IOM welcomed each repatriates with Tk5,919 and some food items.

According to the circular, a total of 975 people detained in the detention centers in Benghazi and Tripoli have been brought to Bangladesh since July of this year. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said that all irregular Bangladeshi citizens will be repatriated from Libya to Bangladesh very soon.
