Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has expressed concern of huge loss after the Malaysian government decided to stop employing Bangladeshi workers effective from September 1.
The organization called for the necessary reforms to freeze the impact of any syndicate and make the necessary changes.
In a statement issued on Sunday, based on published reports in the media, TIB said: “The Malaysian government has decided to stop the recruitment of Bangladeshi migrant workers due to unauthorized business of organized groups.”
TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said: "We are deeply concerned about the decision to stop Bangladeshi migrant workers in Malaysia but at the same time, we urge the Bangladesh government to see the decision as a positive measure to stop the monopoly and syndicate-based immoral business in the export of manpower.
"In view of this decision to stop the recruitment of migrant workers, Bangladesh government should immediately discuss the matter with the Malaysian government and agree upon a solution to the problem,” he said.
“Or else there will be temporary shortages of work which will lead to increase in the unemployment rate,” Dr Iftekharuzzaman further said.
He added: “TIB is concerned especially because the government is well aware of those who are responsible for this situation. But they have long been able to under the radar.”
He further added: “TIB feels the government now has the opportunity to prove its political and administrative goodwill, and get rid of the migration crisis and the corruption of the syndicate.”
Earlier Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said his government wants all agents in Bangladesh to be able to export manpower to his country.
