Update : 18 Feb 2015, 06:22 AM

The prosecution has expressed satisfaction with the tribunal verdict that sentenced Jamaat leader Abdus Subhan to death for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.

“We are satisfied, as we were able to prove six charges against the accused,” said Prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Simon.

He said the verdict fulfilled the nation’s longstanding expectation.

Abdus Subhan, the senior leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, has been sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

The three-member International Crimes Tribunal 2, led by Justice Obaidul Hassan, found him guilty on six charges out of nine.

Currently a vice president of the Islamist organisation, Subhan, was given the capital punishment in charges 1, 4 and 6.
