A Sylhet court has rejected the bail petition of Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury in connection with former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria murder case.
Distinct Sessions Judge Mahbubul Haque passed the order around 12pm on Sunday after hearing the petition submitted by Ariful’s lawyer.
Ariful’s lawyer Advocate Nurul Islam confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
Earlier, Ariful surrendered before a district court in the murder case on December 30.
On November 13, the police submitted a supplementary charge sheet against 35 people including 11 new in Kibria murder case. The freshly-indicted accused included Arif and Habiganj Mayor GK Gaus as well Harris Chowdhury, a former political adviser to Khaleda Zia.
On January 27, 2005, five people including Kibria were killed in a grenade attack after attending a rally in Boidyer Bazar of Habiganj.
