The High Court has ordered the school heads and managing committees across the country to refund the additional examination fees charged from the SSC candidates by January 20.
An HC bench comprising of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman passed the order on Tuesday afternoon.
In its order, the HC bench asked the school heads and managing committees to refund the extra fees to the SSC students by January 20.
“Otherwise the managing committees of the schools would be considered invalid,” said the court.
The members of those committees will also be considered ineligible for participating any governing body election.
The court also directed the education secretary and chairmen of 10 education boards to issue an order in this regard.
The chairpersons and principals of 20 schools in Dhaka appeared before the court on Tuesday. On December 14, the High Court summoned them.
Earlier, Deputy Attorney General Biswojit Roy told the Dhaka Tribune that the summons came after going through a probe report submitted by Dhaka Education Board. It said these institutions charged extra fees for the 2015 academic year.
On November 10, the same bench ordered the government to immediately stop charging additional fees at the schools across the country.
