The investigation report, prepared by elite force RAB on the Narayanganj seven murders that found the involvement of 27 of its personnel with the incident, will be placed before a High Court bench on December 10.
Rapid Action Battalion submitted the report to the Attorney General’s Office on November 23. But the matter came to light yesterday.
The report will be submitted to the bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore.
Asked about the findings, a senior RAB official seeking anonymity said three sacked officials of RAB 11 had planned and executed the abduction and subsequent murder of the seven people.
A total of 27 RAB men including the sacked officials were involved in different stages of the incident. “The probe committee did not find the involvement of any official of the RAB headquarters or any other battalions with the crime,” the source said.
The three RAB officials – Lt Col Tareq Sayeed Mohammad, Maj Arif Hossain and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana – were sent to forced retirement on May 6. They are now in police custody.
The committee members talked to more than 100 RAB men during the investigation. They spoke to some eyewitnesses and family members of the victims.
The official said they visited the spots where the abduction, murder and dumping had taken place.
On June 4, the same High Court bench directed RAB, the government’s seven-member probe committee, the inspector general of police and the CID to submit their reports on the progress of their investigation into the killing incident.
On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his four associates, and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver were abducted. Their bodies were later found floating in the Shitalakkhya River.
Tareq Sayeed is the son-in-law of Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, also the Dhaka city unit Awami League general secretary.
Nazrul’s father-in-law alleged that the RAB had abducted and killed the seven in exchange of Tk6 crore.
