“All Bangalee people now got their expected judgment against Nizami” he added.

The prosecutor made the comment while expressing reaction over the verdict on the tribunal premises yesterday.

He said: “Out of 16 charges, the Jamaat Ameer has been awarded death penalty under charges of 2,4,6, and 16 while under charges of 1,3,7, and 8 he was awarded life imprisonment.”

Nizami verdict was emotionalized and perverse: Defense lawyer

Nizami’s lawyer Tajul Islam termed the verdict “emotionalized” and “perverse” while expressing reaction over the verdict of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami who was sentenced to death for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

“The judgment was unjust and beyond the jurisdiction. The tribunal said that it declared death verdict for fulfilling people’s expectations but tribunal can not say like this because the language of politics, politicians and court can not be same” he said on the tribunal premise yesterday.

This defense lawyer of war criminal Nizami will appeal in the apex court against the verdict, he added.

“Soon we will appeal in the apex court,” he said.

He further said: “The court in its verdict said it was a great mistake to make Nizami a minister. But they have nothing to do about people’s choice. People elected him a minister. The court should judge Nizami as an individual to find how much Nizami was involved in crimes.”.

“We proved that Nizami was in now way involved in any crimes. Moreover, he was not involved in killing intellectuals as Nizami was not involved in Chhatra Shangho,” he said.

“There was no witness who can say that Nizami was present but they argued that the Al-Badar brought their family members on the instruction of Nizami. The prosecution presented false witnesses and false evidence which were not properly judged,” he argued.

“We did not get proper justice through this judgment,” he said.
