HC rules on CNG driver shooting incident

The High Court has ordered authorities concerned to bear all the medical expense of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, who was shot by a policeman.

An HC bench comprising of Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman passed the order on Thursday afternoon, responding a writ petition filed by Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK).

The HC also asked to submit a report regarding the actions taken by the police against the persons involved in the incident, by November 18.

The court issued a rule for four weeks asking why departmental action should not be taken against the accused and why any direction about preventing abuse of the power would not be given.

Secretary for home, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Officer-in-Charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police Station and the Sub-Inspector of the police station Anwar Hossain were made the respondents of the rule.

Earlier, On October 19, Shah Alam, 27, was shot in the legs in the capital’s Agargaon area and later shown arrested in an arms case.

The accused Anwar Hossain, sub-inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station was arrested on Wednesday.

Shah Alam is now undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) in Agargaon.
