People from all strata of life under the banner of the Rajshahibasi observed a sit-in on the promises of Shaheed Minar in Rajshahi city yesterday, demanding measures to rescue a college girl who has been remained missing for 53 days.
They also gave seven-day ultimatum to police to rescue the victim. They also threaned that they would wage tougher movement, if the victim was not rescued by this stipulated time.
Speakers at the programme said it had been almost two months since the college girl Muntaha Mizan Riana, daughter of Mizanur Rahman, had been abducted, but police could not take effective measures to rescue her.
Riana went out of her house in the morning on August 12 after getting a phone call from Mominul Haque Dinar, joint secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League Rajshahi City College unit, since then she remained missing.
A case was filed against Dinar, his uncle and some unidentified persons on August 15. Police arrested Dinar on August 15. But he is now on bail.
General Secretary of the Workers Party of Bangladesh Fazle Hossain Badsha presided over the programme participated by acting mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Anwarul Amin Azab, former panel mayor of the RCC Shariful Islam and President of Rajshahi Sangram Parishad Liakat Ali.
