After pronouncing the appeal verdict of war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayedee, Gonojagoron Moncho of Chittagong unit has taken position in Cheragi Pahar Intersection expressing their frustration over the sentence.
The death sentence awarded Sayedee to finally get imprisonment until his death by the appeal verdict which frustrated the countrymen, the speakers said adding the frustration may turn into agitation amongst the common people.
Gonojagoron Moncho Chittagong Coordinator Sharif Chowhan said the betrayer of the country got rid of proper punishment and the people of the country were not happy with the verdict.
Sayedee deserved only death by hanging while she was not happy with the latest verdict adding that if Sayedee is not ordered to be hanged on charges of war crimes then it should not give death penalty to anybody for any other offences, said Shahid Jaya (martyr’s wife) Begum Mustari Shafi.
“Sayedee would be released from jail in the future during another party’s government tenure,” she said.
Freedom Fighters Commander Mohammad Shahabuddin of Chittagong district and Gonojagoron Moncho Organiser Delwar Majumder also spoke in the rally, among other leaders of the platform.
After the rally in the intersection, a procession was brought out from there which was ended in front of the Chittagong Press Club.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-Shibir men also brought out brisk processions in the city’s Muradpur and Bakalia areas in the afternoon protesting the verdict while Bakalia police nabbed two persons when they attempted to conduct vandalism, said police.
The security measures in Chittagong city and the district’s 14 upazilas were tightened ahead of the appeal verdict of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Acting Commissioner Banaj Kumar Mazumder said additional 2,000 police men were deployed in 80 points of the port city to evade any kind of subversive activities.
