The Anti-Corruption Commission has found proof of illegally amassed wealth worth Tk216 crore by Awami League MP from Rajshahi Enamul Haque.
ACC Deputy Director Jatan Kumer Roy recommended filing a case against him yesterday in his probe report.
The graft buster’s investigation found that the lawmaker concealed information of his wealth estimated to be worth around Tk213 crore in his wealth statement submitted to the Election Commission before January 5 election.
Apart from this, Enamul amassed Tk2.88 crore beyond his legal income in five years before the election.
The commission also found proof of amassing wealth illegally worth Tk49 crore against the lawmaker's wife Tohura Haque, informed an ACC official on condition of anonymity.
That official also informed that from the audit report found from Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) reveals that the incumbent lawmaker’s company earned Tk84 crore net profit but he paid only Tk87 lakh as tax which is clearly tax evasion. The report has a clear indication about that.
Earlier on September 8 the ACC questioned the lawmaker. After the questioning was over the lawmaker told reporters that he had not owned any other assets beyond those his statement submitted to Election Commission.
A day after, Enamul’s PS Kanchan Das threatened the investigation officer not to recommend any case against the MP. However, after the threat the ACC official filed a general diary with the police station concerned.
The ACC initiated the inquiry against the lawmaker on January 22 on charges of amassing illegal wealth. The probe was prompted by his wealth statement submitted to the Election Commission before the January 5 election, which showed a dramatic rise in his wealth.
