Pinak 6 capsize probe report submitted

The seven-member committee, formed to find out the reasons behind the capsizing of ML Pinak 6, submitted its report to the Shipping Ministry yesterday.

Committee chief Nur-Ur Rahman, also a joint secretary of the ministry, submitted the report, Shipping Ministry Secretary Syed Monjurul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune. Neither the secretary nor the joint secretary who is heading the investigation committee, however disclosed any of the findings in the investigation.

On August 4, Pinak 6 capsized in the Padma River near the Mawa terminal with around 300 passengers on board.

The official data says the bodies of 48 passengers have so far been recovered while 62 passengers are still missing.

The Shipping Ministry formed the seven-member committee to find the causes behind the launch disaster, hours after it took place.

Besides, the Department of Shipping had formed another four-member committee with Engineer and Ship Survey official Nazmul Haque as the convener of the committee.
