The High Court yesterday granted a one-year bail to Adflame Pharmaceutical Limited Director Helena Pasha, who was handed a ten-year jail sentence for producing and distributing adulterated paracetamol.
The division bench of Justice Syed AB Mahmudul Huq and Justice Akram Hossain Chowdhury granted the bail to the 78-year-old on medical grounds. Helena Pasha is currently admitted to the Coronary Care Unit at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.
The High Court passed the order after hearing arguments from both Advocate SM Shahjahan, who represented Helena, and Deputy Attorney General Shafiul Bashar Bhandari, who stood for the state.
On July 22, a Dhaka court awarded three Adflame Pharmaceuticals officials 10-years of rigorous imprisonmentfor manufacturing adulterated paracetamol syrup which killed 76 children in the 1990s.
