The High Court has ordered Kumarkhali officer-in-charge to register a FIR over the assault on ETV journalist Akhil Poddar.
An HC bench of Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Ashraful Kamal passed the order on Sunday following a writ petition filed by journalist Akhil Poddar.
The Kumarkhali OC is asked to submit a compliance report by September 17 and the home secretary is asked to submit by October 21.
The High Court also issued a rule asking as to why appropriate legal actions should not be taken against the criminals over the ETV journalist assault.
In an interim order, the court directed the home secretary to submit a report within four weeks forming a probe committee over the journalist assault.
The court also issued a rule asking why the inactivity of the defendants should not be declared illegal in terms of accepting case over the matter.
The home secretary, IGP, GP, Kushtia ASP, Kumarkhali OC, ASI Abul Kalam Azad are asked to give an explanation over the rules within four weeks.
Earlier, police beaten Akhil Poddar, a special correspondent of private TV channel Ekushey Television, when he was returning home in Kushtia on August 27.
Later, he went to file a case in this connection. But the police station concerned did not accept the case.
