A probe body, formed by the government as per a High Court directive, yesterday quizzed Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Zillar Rahman over the Narayanganj seven murders.
Besides, the probe body will also interrogate five members of Rapid Action Battalion, arrested recently in connection with the case, at the Jail Gate after police concludes their eight-day remand.
According to the investigators, Zillar was quizzed at the probe body chief’s Secretariat office from 10:30am to 11:45pm over the sensational killing occurred in April this year.
The seven-member committee, led by Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration Shahjahan Ali Mollah, comprises of representatives from home, law and public administration ministry.
After the interrogation, Zillar told reporters that the probe team asked him of what actions or directives he gave to his subordinates during the time of the incident as the supervising officer.
“I have no relation with law and order issues. So, I told the committee what I knew about the incident,” he added.
Meanwhile, Shahjahan Ali Mollah said: “We wanted to know what he knew about the incident. He has given his statement. We will examine the information that he has given.”
“We have got enough information quizzing around 400 people until Tuesday. But, we will need more times to conclude the probe and submit the report to the court as we are getting new information in every steps of interrogation. So, we will sought four weeks more after submitting our progress report on September 9.”
Earlier, Narayanganj Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, local parliamentarian Shamim Osman, Dhaka Range Police DIG Mahufuzul Haque Nuruzzaman and RAB Additional Director General Ziaul Ahsan had been quizzed by the probe committee.
On May 6, as per the High Court directive, the public administration ministry formed a seven-member probe body to investigate the abductions and killings incident of seven people in Narayanganj.
Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and noted lawyer Chandan Sarker, along with five others, were abducted on April 27. Later, their bodies were found floating in River Shitalakkhya on April 30. Nazrul’s wife filed an abduction case against Nur and four others on April 28.
