Abdul Alim buried in Joypurhat

Update : 01 Sep 2014, 01:38 PM

Convicted war criminal Abdul Alim, who was the chairman of Peace Committee in Joypurhat during the 1971 Liberation War, has been buried at the family graveyard in Joypurhat.

He was buried at 4pm at his family graveyard after his Namaz-e-Janaza held at Joypurhat stadium. Some 30,000 people attended the Janaza prayer.

Alim's elder son Faisal Alim told the people after the Janaza: “We will fight against the tribunal's verdict that convicted my father in war crimes charges. We will prove that my father was not guilty.”

Earlier on Saturday, the former BNP minister died at the Intensive Care Unit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

Considering his old age, the International Crimes Tribunal on October 9 last year sentenced him to imprisonment until death for the crimes he had committed in Joypurhat during the war.

Alim was arrested on March 27, 2011 and secured bail on health grounds on March 31.

He was a former minister in military strongman Gen Ziaur Rahman’s cabinet.
