Court summons Hall-Mark chair, MD

A Dhaka court yesterday summoned Hall-Mark Group chairman and its managing director and ordered them to appear before the court on August 28 in connection with a compensation case filed by Sonali Bank.

First Joint District Court Judge Fazlay Elahi Bhuyan took the case into cognisance and passed the order.

Sonali Bank’s Rupashi Bangla Branch Deputy Manager Md Abul Hashem filed the case against the bank’s former managing director and 33 others.

According to the case, the plaintiff said Hall-Mark Group and its sister concern Max Spinning Mills took over Tk755 crore in loans through different vouchers.   

It also said Max Spinning Mills took over Tk525 crore loans through 176 vouchers of different types between December 28, 2011 and March 28, 2012 through a mutual understanding with bank officials, in violation of the bank rules.

The other defendants include Max Spinning Mills proprietor Meer Zakariah, Hall Mark Managing Director Tanvir Mahmud, Hall Mark Chairman Jesmin Islam, Sonali Bank Ruposhi Bangla branch Deputy General Manager AKM Azizu Rahman, Assistant General Manager Md Saiful Islam, General Manager Noni Gopal Nath, Executive Officer Md Abdul Matin, former senior executive officer Meherun Nesa, Sonali Bank Chief Operating Officer Md Humayun Kabir, former managing director of Sonali Bank head office Atiqur Rahman, former deputy managing director Sonali Bank head office Moinul Haque and others.
