A Dhaka court has granted bail to former vice-chancellor of Stamford University Dr Hannan Firoz.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Jahrul Haque passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed by defence lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kajol.
Hannan was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence on July 16 for his alleged involvement in the attack on former Chhatra League president Enamul Haque Shamim.

Shamim is a central leader of Awami League and also a member of the Board of Trustees of Stamford University.
According to police and Shamim’s driver, Shamim was shot, by three youths astride a motorbike, in front of Ibn Sina Diagnostic Centre in Dhanmondi while on his way to Stamford University in the morning on the day of the incident.
Shamim, who was sitting beside the driver, escaped the attempted murder by ducking his head but two bullets pierced his hand.
After the attack, RAB arrested four people, and DB police another three.
Investigators said Shamim was targeted because of a feud regarding ownership of the university.
