The High Court has halted the execution of a notice regarding an order appointing National Cancer Institute former director Prof Dr Sheikh Golam Mostafa as OSD. The HC also stayed the replacement notification of National Cancer Institute director Prof Dr Samiul Islam for six months. The bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Akram Hossain Chowdhury passed the order on Tuesday afternoon in response to a writ petition filed by Prof Dr Sheikh Golam Mostafa. The High Court also issued a rule asking why the replacement notification should not be declared illegal. Health secretary, director general, ministry’s officials concerned and Prof Dr Samiul Islam have been asked to respond within four weeks. Advocate BM Ilias Hossain moved for the petitioner’s side while Deputy Attorney General Mokhlesur Rahman represented the government. Earlier, Prof Dr Sheikh Golam Mostafa was made OSD on July 27. He was appointed director a month ago. Prof Dr Md Samiul Islam of Pathology department of Chest Disease was appointed as Director on the same day.
