Case filed against Nur Hossain’s brother-in-law

Police have filed a case against two persons, including the brother-in-law of Narayanganj seven murders’ prime suspect Nur Hossain, in connection with the recovery of Nur’s pistol from a private car that collided with a train in the capital’s Malibagh area on Friday.

Nur-e-Alam Khan, Nur Hossain’s brother-in-law, is also the secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Sonargaon unit. MA Rahman, alias Ansar Ali, the other accused, is a close associate of Alam’s and a businessman.

The case was filed by Rafiqul Islam, operation officer of Dhaka Railway police station, who told the Dhaka Tribune that the two had been accused of possessing illegal arms.

Ansar, who sustained injuries in the accident, is under treatment at Apollo Hospital in the capital under police custody. Police have yet to arrest Alam.

A police source said they had already traced Alam’s hiding place and would arrest him anytime.

According to Narayanganj police, following the seven murders in Narayanganj, the district administration cancelled the 11 arms licences of Nur Hossain and his relatives.

Police seized nine of thee firearms, but the other two, which were licensed under Nur’s name, were not surrendered to Siddhirganj police station. Alam allegedly has been using one of those guns.

On Friday, the private car carrying three passengers, including Ansar Ali, collided with a train while trying to cross the rail line.

Later, Railway Police recovered a foreign pistol and 12 rounds of bullets from the wrecked car.

Police arrested Ansar from hospital, but the other two fled the scene.
