Khaleda has to appear before court in graft cases

Update : 27 Jul 2014, 08:59 PM

A Dhaka court has deferred until September 3 the recording of testimonies against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and others in Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust corruption cases.

Judge Basudev Roy of the Third Special Judge’s Court yesterday also asked Khaleda to appear before it on that day.

The court fixed the date following a time petition filed by defence lawyer Taherul Islam Towhid.

The counsel said they had filed the plea as the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court set September 1 for hearing of two petitions of the BNP chief.

On May 12, Khaleda filed two writ petitions with the High Court, challenging the appointment of Judge Basudev Roy and the indictments in the two cases. After the High Court had rejected the petitions on June 19, she challenged the order at the Appellate Division.
