Ex-Stamford VC Hannan sent to jail

A Dhaka court has sent former vice-chancellor of Stamford University, MA Hannan Feroz to jail in connection with a case filed for his involvement with the attack on former BCL leader Enamul Haque Shameem.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Alamgir Kabir Raj has passed the order, responding to the bail plea filed by defence lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kajol on Wednesday afternoon.

After the completion of Hannan’s two-round remand, the investigation officer of the case made a prayer to keep him confined for the sake of proper investigation.

On July 16, a team of Detective Branch of police arrested Hannan from his residence in the capital's Dhanmondi area.

Court GRO Md Mohidul Islam said: “Acting on the information provided by the other accused, the DB police have arrested Hannan.”

On July 8, RAB members detained four persons for their alleged involvement in the attack on former president of Chhatra League AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem.

On June 19, Shameem was on his way to his Stamford University office when he was attacked. He was sitting beside the driver and his uncle Nasir Ahmed was in the back of the car.

Two bullets broke through the glass of the vehicle and hit Shameem in his hand but he survived.
