At least seven people were sentenced to death in Nilphamari on Monday.
Our Nilphamari correspondent said a court had ordered the jail authorities in the district to hang seven people for the killing of a farmer.
The convicts are- Rafiqul Islam, son of Ghauya Mamud, Tulab Hossain, son of Amin Hossain of Dangpara village under Kishoriganj upazila, Atahar Ali, son of Joban Ali of Khata Madhupur village under Syedpur upazila, Mahsin Ali, son of late Omar Ali of Kazirhat village under Jaldhaka upazila in Nilphamari district, Mahubar Rahman son of late Mahtab Uddin, Ganga Chora village, Mintu Mia, son of Shohidar Rahman, Sadar upazila in Rangpur district and Abdur Razzaque son of Majibur Rahman of Uttar durakuthi village under Kishoriganj upazila in Nilphamari district.
The court also gave life sentences to two accused.
They are- Rafiqul Islam alias Mamun and his brother Afsar Rahman of village Khata Madhupur of Syedpur upazila.
According to the prosecution, the convicts abucted farmer Abdul Jabbar at Dangapara village in Nitai union under Kishoreganj upazila on July 27, 2008 due to internal conflict.
Later, they slaughtered him to death.
Abdul Jabbar’s son Abdus Salam filed a murder case with Kishoreganj police station in connection with the murder.
Nilphamari Additional District and Sessions Judge Court magistrate Reza Md Alamgir pronounced the verdict. All the convicted are absconding.
