BTRC files criminal case against 3 Bestec owners

The telecom regulator yesterday filed a criminal case against three owners of International Gateway (IGW) operator Bestec Telecom over non-payment of Tk130.14 crore in revenue shares and annual licence fees.

Officials at the Gulshan police station and the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) confirmed that a deputy director of the BTRC filed the case yesterday evening against Bestec Chairman Toriqul Islam, Managing Director Enayet Kabir, and Director Md Mamunoor Rashid.

According to BTRC sources, Bestec Telecom owes the regulator Tk115.41 crore in revenue sharing, Tk7.5 crore in annual licence fees, Tk1.13 crore in VAT on licence fees, and Tk6.71 crore in fines for delaying the payment of fees.

Bestec Telecom also faces a case filed by mobile phone operator Grameenphone over an outstanding worth Tk13.49 crore.
