Jasad leader shot dead in Kushtia

A local leader of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) was shot to death by miscreants in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia on Monday, the first day of the Bangla New Year.  

The deceased was identified as Imsail Hossain Panjer, 56, former vice-president of the Mirpur upazila unit of Jasad.

An Awami League leader Shafiqul Islam, 50, was also injured in the attack. He is the general secretary of the ward-9 unit Awami League of Poradah union of the upazila.

Mitul, son of the deceased, said a gang of three miscreants riding a motorbike opened fire on Panjer and Shafiqul in the morning while they were taking tea at Abdur Rashid’s shop in Ahmedpur Bazar after a morning walk, leaving them injured.  

They were then rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared Panjer dead.  Critically injured Shafiqul is still receiving treatment at the hospital. Panjer, who was accused in several cases, including for murder, was released from jail on bail recently.

A case was filed with the Mirpur police station, accusing 13 people yesterday.
