RAB nabs 5 for journo’s murder in Narayanganj

RAB detained five men in connection with the murder of a local journalist that took place on March 28 in Sonargaon upazila, Narayanganj, RAB officials disclosed at a press briefing in Kurmitola, Dhaka yesterday.

The vicitm, Delwar Hossain, 40, was a correspondent of Dainik Somachar and Bhorer Barta. He also owned a land business and a workshop in Sonargaon.

The detainees are: Ibrahim Khalil, 32, Mohammad Jahangir, 32, Mohammad Kalam, 45, Monir Hossain, 26, and Abbas Ali, 44.

Arrested from different places in Siddhirganj, the accused admitted to the crime and described why and how they killed Delwar.

“Khalil had a feud with Delwar over a piece of vested property, Kalam had a feud with him over land business, and Jahangir, Abbas and Monir were in conflict with him over gas line connections,” said Wing Commander ATM Habibur Rahman, director of RAB’s legal and media wing.

“The three different parties banded together to get revenge and killed Delwar, swooping in on him on his way home at night,” he said.

RAB officials said Ibrahim was the mastermind behind the murder, while the others assisted him.

Originally from Dohar upazila in Dhaka, Delwar had moved to Bailor, Sonargaon 15 years ago.
